Daily News indonesia – The announcement made by an analytical agency Deep Knowledge Analytics (DKA) from London, England, after examining 114 variables in 5 categories of city response to the Covid-19 pandemic that Provincial Government of Jakarta (DKI Jakarta) is included in the top 50 best cities in the world, once again proves the leadership of Governor Anies Rasyid Baswedan.
The announcement makes not only the people of the capital city of Jakarta proud, but unavoidably: it creates the sensation and national pride. It proves we are able, we can.
Entitled ‘COVID-19 City Safety Rankings Q2/2021: Benchmarking of Municipal Pandemic Response Vaccines, Economy, Prevention, Governance, Safety’, the five categories in the 116-page DKA report refer to economic resilience, governance, health care, quarantine and vaccination.
In total, DKA analyzed 8,200 data, up from 1,250 in its first city report published in March 2021, which touched on topics ranging from quarantine periods and economic support packages to civil resilience among residents.
DKI Jakarta is ranked 47th out of 72 cities surveyed by DKA with a score of 51.43. The first rank is Abu Dhabi with a score of 73.16, even the vaccination rate in the city also ranks first.
The second position is occupied by Singapore with a score of 71.69. The country is also ranked at the top in terms of economic resilience during the pandemic. If Covid-19 case is the reference, Singapore with a population of a bit less than 6 millions has recently faced an average of 5,000-9,000 cases per day, much worse than Indonesia, which only 260 million but less cases, under 1000 per day.
Seoul stands in third place with a score of 71.41. The capital of South Korea also occupies the top position in terms of health care management.
The DKA report also reveals that the pandemic has created poor coordination between the central government and local city authorities. In addition, no city has the health care capacity to support the massive surge in disease caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The success of the Governor of DKI Jakarta in controlling the transmission of Covid-19 in the capital city has received appreciation from many circles. One of them is the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Menko Marves) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, close assistant to President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).
Mr. Luhut openly praised Governor Anies’ performance in tackling Covid-19. ”Jakarta has been very good at controlling Covid-19 cases and this cannot be separated from the important role of the Governor,” he said at the 2021 Jakarta Investment Forum (JIF) event on Thursday, November 11, 2021.
DKI Jakarta, Luhut added, has resilience in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic. He also recently received the Ministry of Finance from Malaysia to discuss the Covid-19 situation and share Indonesia’s experience in dealing with the pandemic.
An Authentic Leader
Governor Anies, who had just been attacked unfounded flooding in Jakarta and his policies, is not flattered when he received the world praise. Despite being insulted, he remains intact and humble. He underlines the key to his success as the fruit of collaborative work between parties. He recognizes all stakeholders behind him.
Anies said, this achievement is a concrete manifestation of the cooperation between the government and the citizens of Jakarta in controlling the spread of Covid-19 by participating in the success of the Covid-19 vaccination program.
”This is a good indication of our progress in handling the Covid-19 pandemic,” said Anies at the JIF event which was held virtually.
He announced, until November 9, 2021, there were 11 million people in DKI Jakarta who had received the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine. And more than half have already received a second dose of the vaccine.
”Currently, PPKM regulations in Jakarta have been relaxed from PPKM Level 2 to PPKM Level 1,” Anies added. ”As a result, Jakarta is in the top 50 in terms of the best handling of the Covid-19 pandemic.”
Based on the latest data, Jakarta’s new cases are only 95, and the death rate is 0, while the hospital occupancy rate is around 2.5 percent. This achievement raises the spirit and national self-esteem.
Receiving the praise of Minister Luhut, Governor Anies still shows his humble attitude. A similar attitude when he learned that the capital city was in the ranks of the best cities in the world in handling Covid-19.
However, Anies is still Anies who remains humble when receiving the world-class achievement record. He still considers that Jakarta’s success is the result of collaborative work between parties, together with the support of Jakarta residents in controlling the spread of Covid-19.
Confession of Expert and Analyst
Indonesian epidemiologist Pandu Riono, through his Twitter account ‘Juru Wabah’ (@drpriono1), declares that one indicator of the success of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government led by Anies Baswedan is openness regarding the Covid-19 issue.
”Jakarta can be successful in Pandemic Control, which is recognized by the world, because of the openness of the local government @dkijakarta,” wrote Mr. Pandu quoted by KBA News on Thursday, November 11, 2021.
In addition to openness, he added, Jakarta, which is now a city of collaboration, is also in handling the pandemic scientifically or based on science, which is then applied nationally in all cities in Indonesia.
”Jakarta has become a city of collaboration and knowledge-based in carrying out control efforts and the experience is applied nationally,” he said. ”Acknowledgment on Anies’ achievement has to be acknowledged.”
Meanwhile, a public policy analyst Trubus Rahadiansyah assessed that Anies’ key success in handling the Covid-19 pandemic is the Governor’s independent assessments and actions, considering special circumstances of the Jakarta city. That is Anies’ decision that did not automatically follow and refer to policies of the Central Government which often changed.
”Covid in Jakarta is sloping because of his success in carrying out various activities, even though Mr. Anies is often confronted by central policies that like to intervene with strange policies, as we observe,” Mr. Trubus said.
On this successful backdrop, as usual, journalists are always chasing Anies, asking if he will run in 2024 Presidential Election.
As usual, Anies always answers diplomatically that he still has another year of accountability to the people of Jakarta. This last year of his term of office should be the key to his success in making Jakarta better, fulfilling all his promises when campaigning for the governorship of DKI.
“The presidential election is still three years away. Let’s focus on the work in front of us. That is more important and urgent,” he concluded. (Adara)
