The accusers had to prove with data and facts that Anies prioritized the interests of certain religious groups after being elected governor. Facts refute them, they are going nowhere.
OMPAS Daily, December 23, 2021 edition, published a report on the increasing electability of Anies Baswedan as the president of public choice.
Under the title “Observing Anies Baswedan’s Electability in 2020”, Kompas states that according to the R&D surveys, during January to October 2021, Anies’ electability tends to stagnate at 9-10 percent. However, Kompas admits, the results of the newspaper’s R&D survey in 2019 and 2020, Anies’ electability was only 8.5 percent.
This means that there is an increase in the electability of the DKI Governor in 2021 compared to previous years. However, the increase is not significant.
The reason is that Anies has been accused as a person who carried out identity politics since the 2017 gubernatorial election.
With the forthcoming presidential election in 2024 is not that far, is an opportunity for Anies to expand support in 2022 2024 wide open?
The question is answered by Kompas, that fact that the last survey shows an indication towards the choice of inclusivity. Previously, the concentration of Anies’ supporters, which was limited to socio-demographic characteristics or a specific political background, has now faded away.
In the past, Anies’ supporters were concentrated outside Java, such as Aceh, West Sumatra, Riau, South Sumatra, and parts of West Java. Now the balance of support is starting to approach in the national proportions.
The biggest support is in West Java. Regarding social identity, such as religion, previously Anies’ supporters were concentrated among Muslims. Supporters from non-Islamic circles are fairly minimal. However, Kompas continues, the results of the latest survey shows that there was an increase in support for Anies from non-Muslim circles.
Regarding political orientation, previously the ranks of Anies’ supporters tended to be opposed to Joko Widodo’s government, but now they have faded a bit.
I think the recent widespread support for Anies, which spans from various social identities and political orientations, leading now to the trend to the direction thant false identity of the false identity that Anies haters have attached to the governor of DKI– is fading away.
The accusers do not read Anies from his thoughts and policies proven otherwise during his 4 year leadership in Jakarta.
None of his thoughts and policies show that he is discriminatory against certain social groups and their political orientations.
Only in time of Anies s reign as the Jakarta Governor, Christmas was celebrated festively and safely in public spaces.
Other religious communities, such as Hinduism, Buddhism, and Confucianism, are also free and even assisted by the DKI Provincial Government to celebrate their big holidays and religious activities.
Anies has proven, that Muslims in Jakarta do not have the privilege over other religious communities.
Indeed, during the 2017 Gubernatorial Election campaign, Anies visited the headquarters of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) where he met with Great Imam Habib Rizieq Shihab. At that time, the case of blasphemy against governor incumbent Mr. Basuki Tjahaja Purnama alias Ahok, was simmering.
The issue was used by Mr. Habib Rizieq Shihab to organize the huge public meeting attended by millions of people to defend Islam in the Monas area. It is the biggest attending masses in one time and in one place so far in Indonesia.
Anies never took part in the public meeting in defending Islam. Nor did he utter a single word during the campaign or debate for governor that other candidates cornered Ahok regarding this issue.
If Anies asked for the support of Muslims in the contest, it made political sense, as he also asked for the support of other religions from other denominations by visiting their headquarters..
Such political practices during electoral campaigns are perfectly normal, happening all over the world, even in the most secular of countries, such as the US. Anies would have looked very stupid if during the campaign period he did not try to win votes from the citizens of Jakarta in which Muslim are the majority such as in the majority of provinces and cities across the board, regardless of their social identity.
The accusers are failed to prove with data and facts that Anies prioritizes the interests of certain religious groups after being elected governor.
Of course they couldn’t prove it. Actually, their anger at Anies was more because their hero, Ahok, lost in the fierce contest.
Their defense of Ahok has more to do with promoting their religious views. As is well known, some Muslims still hold to their understanding that non-Muslims should not be leaders for Muslims. This understanding is what they want to destroy it under the views it is incompatible with a modern state based on Pancasila.
Ahok as a symbol is the entrance to overturn understandings that are considered irrelevant in this day and age. However, some Muslim intellectuals also support Ahok views. As a result, Muslims are divided over the case.
It did not prevent from Ahok loss. Unfortunately, Ahok was even imprisoned for this issue under the Penal Code.
This increases their disappointment and there must be a scapegoat to treat their hurt. So Anies is chosen as a scapegoat.
Actually, regarding their religious views, Ma’ruf Amin should be their focus. Ahok’s fatwa blaspheming Islam was issued by the MUI, which was then led by Mr. Ma’ruf Amin, who is now accompanying Jokowi as vice president. But they supported Mr. Ma ruf Amin to pair with Mr. Joko Widodo as candidate for Vice-President.
Without the MUI fatwa in which Ma’ruf Amin is the key figure, it is impossible for Habib Rizieq and other mass organizations figures to be able to mobilize millions of people to express their protest against Ahok.
Anies would be mistakesas always– he is too good at interpreting the political atmosphere at that time.
Surprisingly, these Anies haters did not accuse Jokowi of playing identity politics when he chose Ma’ruf Amin as his presidential candidate in the 2019 presidential election. Even though it was clear that Ma’ruf’s choice was aimed at winning the votes of Muslims, especially Muslims who opposed Ahok.
In the context of electoral politics, what Anies did by meeting Habib Rizieq is actually comparably similar to Jokowi’s approach to Ma’ruf Amin. The difference is, if Jokowi has to accept part of Ma’ruf Amin’s agenda, Anies does not adopt any of the FPI agendas.
Anies the grandson of a national hero and founder of the Republic, Mr. AR Baswedan, always shows hi adherence and loyalty to the spirit of Pancasila and the constitutional mandate that all Indonesian citizens regardless of their ethnicity, religion, ethnicity, social group, ideology, political orientation must be treated humanely and fairly in equal manner. Principles.
The trend of increasing electability and widespread acceptance of Anies recently, based on the results of the Kompas Research and Development survey, shows an increasing awareness of the Indonesian public towards Anies’ thoughts, attitudes, and policies during his reign in the Jakarta City Hall.
Anies has shown the way he discharges his responsibility as Governor is definitely far from the sectarian attitudes, the alleded views of his haters in the spirit of Anies Bashing . They hate Anies so much in their distribution of anti-Anies videos which allegedly smell racism.
Anyway, all methods are legitimate to them to prevent Anies from becoming President in 2024. The PSI leader even recently, at a party event attended by President Jokowi, made a specific speech statement cursing Anies.
In the speech, the governor of DKI was accused of being a liar, carrying identity politics, and was dismissed from his position as Minister of Education and Culture because of incompetence. So far, no statement made by Jokowi to neutralize that effects.
I am surprised if you are not surprised that this party leader who claims to represent millennials does not show the slightest bit of intellectual weight, let alone carry the aspirations of millennials who hold cosmopolitan views and free themselves from primordial barriers..
This chairman was a former singers in a band group that has never graduated from any university. He may think, singing on stage equals to political speech.
Finally, the results of the Kompas Litbang survey show that great minds and souls cannot be dwarfed by lies. Anies must be fought with the same mind and soul as him. This is because Anies’ thoughts and achievements are widely available in the internet and in public memory. All of this publications printed or uploaded are in no way confirm these heinous accusations.
Anies can only be rejected by argumentative, rational, and objective science, not from the short-sighted minds of people who are angry for no apparent reason.
It is Anies signature character, that he is ready and happy to face the challenge of a fair intellectual in all mediums. After all, he has repeatedly said that his opponent is a friend in debate. Indeed, without debate or debatecriticism there will be no development of science, nor will there be corrections in policy.
But expecting the haters to change attitudes by treating Anies fairly is tantamount to expecting the chickens to grow teeth. Their hearts and minds have been closed. They reflect a fear when Anies is elected president, it would be the end of the day for them.
It’s a shame they threw away the opportunity to argue with Anies fairly for a better Indonesia.
