The seriousness of the Provincial Government (Pemprov) of Jakarta in creating a low emission zone (LEZ) is really evidenced by concrete action.
After working with the World Resources Institute (WRI), the capital has also launched an information center website related to climate change action and air pollution control in Jakarta.
The website, which is addressed at the http://rendahemisi.jakarta.go.id, presents publications of climate change policies and actions and improvements in air quality.
Also the achievements of climate change action and air pollution control and a platform for collaboration, air quality and climate change data information in Jakarta are presented in full on the website.
In addition, the public is also given access to practical information such as the location of emissions tests and other recent policies. Information on the website representing Jakarta’s green vision in reducing Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions is available bilingually in Indonesian and English.
Head of Environment Office, DKI Jakarta, Asep Kuswanto said Friday (19/11), the launch of the Low Emission Website is expected to be a medium for the public to monitor the development of climate change action and air quality improvements in Jakarta.
“If the public knows the development of climate action and air quality, then we expect their participation will increase and also disarm our performance,” said Asep Kuswano.
The launch of the website, which is the result of collaboration with +Jakarta and Vital Strategies supported by Bloomberg Philanthropies, is also a Jakarta initiative in implementing the Citizen Lawsuit ruling by the Central Jakarta District Court on September 16, 2021.
Previously, concrete action in creating low-emission areas was also carried out by the World Resources Institute or WRI. The collaboration work aims to increase public awareness of the benefits of LEZ.
According to World Resource Institute Indonesia research analyst, Belatia Castin, the Jakarta Provincial Government has so far continued to take concrete steps in improving air quality in the capital.
“The Jakarta Provincial Government has made enough efforts regarding air quality. About quality-related information data through the application. Of course, it needs to be appreciated by the efforts made by the government,” he said, as reported by KBA News, Thursday, November 18, 2021.
Quoted from the official smart city website, Kota Tua in Jakarta is one of the popular tourist areas that have implemented low emissions.
Thus, the capital city follows the steps of various cities in the world that have implemented LEZ to keep the air clean in various regions.
On February 8, 2021, LEZ was implemented by opening the lid first. Even so, the application has been valid for 24 hours. The application area of LEZ Kota Tua, namely Jl. Pintu Besar Utara Jl. Kalibesar Barat south side Jl. Kunir south side Jl. Kemukus Jl. Ketumbar Jalan Lada.
The arrangement of the Kota Tua Tourist Area is based on Government Regulation No. 32 of 2011 on Management and Engineering, Impact Analysis, and Traffic Needs Management, and Governor Regulation No. 36 of 2014 on The Old City Area Master Plan.
The existence of LEZ Kota Tua Jakarta will certainly have a good effect on development around the Kota Tua area. Because to make pedestrians, cyclists, and public transportation users comfortable doing activities in the Old City needed adequate infrastructure.
Therefore, the Jakarta Provincial Government also organizes the Jakarta Kota Station area and builds Jakarta MRT lines and stations. In addition, there will also be a pedestrian plaza to pamper pedestrians.
With the arrangement of the area is getting better, people will certainly be more interested in traveling in the Kota Tua area of Jakarta. Visitors also do not need to worry anymore about air quality when traveling because of the application of this LEZ. Cultural heritage is protected, people are safe from pollution.
Meanwhile, according to the Head of Traffic of Jakarta, Mr. Rudy Saptari, it is possible that there are other regions that will implement LEZ. Currently, the Jakarta provincial government is conducting a study to map the next area after the Kota Tua.
“We hope that the implementation of LEZ in the Kota Tua becomes a pilot project. We have mapped several locations that will be implemented by LEZ,” Rudy said, Thursday (18/11).
Rudy said, in the near future Provincial Government of Jakarta will implement LEZ in the Blora Street area. It has been replicating the road into a pedestrian area.
Other areas targeted for the implementation of low-emission zones are Kemang and Lake Sunter, which are currently under review. (kba)(Adara)
